As the pristine snow that has fallen so heavily melts, I thought it would be a good time to give an update on the subject of tooth whitening. Particularly the aspect of laser or power whitening.
There are new safety regulations that have limited the benefits of power or laser whitening, although it was never any more effective than the other system, the dentist prescribed home whitening, that we used.
The upshot is that we do not recommend laser whitening anymore, as it is just not effective enough despite what advertisers may say.
Most of the whitening that occurs in laser whitening is dehydration of the tooth which does not last, and all the systems were backed it up with home whitening anyway.
Whitening bought in the shops is also ineffective as it is too weak. By UK law, only dentists are allowed to dispense the stronger formulations.
So in conclusion, based on 24 years experience of tooth whitening and independent scientific studies: dentist prescribed home whitening systems are the safest and the most effective system, and we would recommend them.
